What Is the Currency Converter?

The Currency Converter is a free online tool that tells you exactly how much an amount in one currency is worth in another. Instead of searching the web for the latest rate and doing the math by hand, you simply enter an amount, choose your two currencies, and the tool returns the converted value instantly using live exchange rates.

It supports over 30 major world currencies — including the US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), British Pound (GBP), Japanese Yen (JPY), Chinese Yuan (CNY), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Australian Dollar (AUD), Swiss Franc (CHF) and many more. Whether you are planning a trip, checking an invoice from an overseas supplier, comparing prices while shopping online, or tracking a transfer, the converter gives you a reliable figure in seconds.

How to Use the Currency Converter

Converting a currency takes just a few seconds. Follow these steps:

  1. Enter the amount. Type the value you want to convert into the “Amount” field. Decimals are supported.
  2. Choose the source currency. In the “From” dropdown, select the currency you are converting from.
  3. Choose the target currency. In the “To” dropdown, select the currency you want to convert to.
  4. Click “Convert”. The converted amount and the exchange rate used appear instantly below the button. A quick-reference table of popular rates against your source currency is also generated.
  5. Swap currencies (optional). Click the swap button between the two dropdowns to reverse the conversion direction with one click.

How Does the Currency Converter Work?

The tool uses live exchange-rate data and a straightforward two-step calculation. Here is what happens behind the scenes:

Live Exchange Rates

When you load the page, the tool requests the latest rates from a public exchange-rate API. The data provider aggregates indicative mid-market rates from multiple financial sources. These are the same reference rates you see on financial news sites — they reflect the midpoint between buy and sell prices in the global foreign-exchange market.

Local Caching for Speed

To keep conversions instant and avoid unnecessary API calls, the rates are cached in your browser for one hour. During that window, every conversion you make uses the cached rates, so results appear immediately. After an hour, the tool automatically refreshes the rates in the background.

The Conversion Formula

Rates are provided with USD as the base currency. To convert from currency A to currency B, the tool first converts your amount into USD, then from USD into the target currency:

amount_in_USD = amount ÷ rate[A]
result = amount_in_USD × rate[B]

Fallback for Reliability

If the API is temporarily unavailable — due to a timeout, rate limit, or network error — the tool automatically falls back to the most recent cached rates so it keeps working. You will see an “Offline rates” notice in the status line when this happens.

No Tracking of Your Amounts

Every conversion is computed locally in your browser. The amounts you enter never leave your device, and the only data fetched from the network is the public exchange-rate table.

Are the exchange rates live?

Yes. The tool fetches live exchange rates from a public API and caches them locally for one hour to balance accuracy with performance. If the API is temporarily unavailable, the tool falls back to recent cached rates so it keeps working.

Yes. Our online Currency Converter is completely free for unlimited use. There are no hidden fees, no premium limits and no subscription required.

No. All conversions are completed locally in your browser. We do not upload, store or share the amounts you enter. Exchange rates are cached locally to speed up repeated conversions.

Can I use this Currency Converter on mobile?

Absolutely. The tool is fully responsive and adapts to all mobile, tablet and desktop devices, supporting real-time use anytime and anywhere.

How accurate are the exchange rates?

Rates are sourced from a public foreign-exchange data provider and updated hourly. While highly reliable for reference, they are indicative and may differ slightly from rates quoted by banks or payment providers at the moment of an actual transaction.

Can I use these rates for real transactions?

The rates are for informational purposes only. Banks, card networks and payment providers apply their own spreads and fees, so the final amount in a real transaction may differ. Always confirm the exact rate with your provider before making a transfer.
