Peter Mullen
Looking backward is Peter's way of making sense of present-day exchange rates. He writes about historical currency data, retracing what happened to specific pairs during economic shocks, policy shifts, and periods of sustained volatility.
The questions he keeps returning to are concrete: how did a particular currency pair behave during the 2008 financial crisis, what happened to conversion rates when a country abandoned a peg, and how do long-term trends compare to the daily fluctuations most site visitors are checking today. He is less interested in predicting where rates are headed and more interested in showing what past data can and cannot tell you.
He is careful to label everything as historical observation. Nothing he writes should be read as a forecast or a recommendation to time a transaction, and he treats the line between looking at old data and advising on future moves as one he does not cross.
